Pros: Great FPS. New and refreshing. Awesome gameplay. No dull moments.
Cons: Modern day for WWI fanboys.
The bottom line: In my honest opinion, I think it's a great game. Buy it, you wont be disappointed.
Call of Duty has been a long running video game series. From it's first release "Call of Duty - Finest Hour", it has been a hit with many gamers across the globe. It has always been set in the 20th century, featuring the world plunged into battle in the world wars. That is the reason why most people were sceptical when the makers revealed that COD4 would be set in modern times. However, the 20th century fans were swayed when they released this great modern day game.
The game follows the paths of two soldiers, and then focuses on one as the game develops. The levels are gripping and intense throughout the game, leading from boats, to war stricken villages and even rooftops. The level design and graphics in general are amazing and will leave even the best PC's struggling to cope with the massive graphical load.
The weapons and character models are also very well designed. The controls are smooth and there is a huge variation between weapons, ranging from silenced pistols for a stealthy approach, or full blown RPGs and frags for the CS fans. The game is packed full with heavy weapons such as landmines and chainguns aswell.
The gameplay never gets boring and there's even a fun little bonus mission at the end. You're constantly bombarded with enemy's but theres always a new way to take them out.
In terms of realism, it's fairly realistic. There are point's where you'll be sat staring at your moniter considering how the hell 5 helicopters came out of nowhere without you noticing. You're actions can get your teammates killed and there's always a choice of which enemy to kill first. The AI is great, plant a headshot on one of two enemys and the other will notice it and open fire. Of course you could always sneak past them but where's the fun in that?
Overall: A great FPS game. Packed with stealth, gunslinging and full blown action. A must buy for all COD fans. Don't get put off by the modern day setting.
